With about one out of four adults being diagnosed with mental health disorders every year, taking small steps to monitor and improve your mental health has become more important than ever. At Crowe PR, employee wellness is a central part of our culture, emphasized through wellness days in our vacation plan, monthly wellness activities and more. In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, our employees have shared daily habits that help support their psychological and emotional wellbeing. Here are a few tips easily adapted to any lifestyle that help improve the way you take care of your mental health.

Daily Movement

We know that daily exercise can improve one’s mood and increase concentration but finding a daily exercise routine can feel like a chore at times. Try pairing a routine that best fits with other areas of your life, such as a walk with your dog before or after work or joining a yoga class with a friend or coworker. These practices will not only benefit you physically and mentally, but help you build relationships and a routine.

Limit Technology + Social Media

As an agency, we constantly find ourselves in front of a screen. Discovering a healthy balance with technology can be difficult, but here are a few ways to help limit your screen time:

  • Limit screen time for the first 30 minutes of the day by doing something you enjoy such as reading a book, journaling (we recommend the The Five Minute Journal) or reviewing your daily goals.
  • Limit screen time before bed by practicing your favorite skincare routine, reading a book or reflecting on all the good things that happened in your day. This will allow you to relax and help you wind down for the night.
  • Look to #HalfTheStory for friendly reminders on maintaining digital wellbeing.

Adding these to your routine can result in mental clarity that you will notice impacts your day or sleep.

Connecting With Others

Relationships are such an important part of daily health and happiness. Simple acts like a smile or a hug can impact your wellbeing in a positive way. Focus on relationships that make you feel happy, supported, loved and motivated. This can be with family or friends near and far or even your furry animals. Activities like sending a message to someone, calling a friend or scheduling a lunch or trip are a few ways our team connects with others for a mental boost.

Cleaning + Organizing

There are many benefits to cleaning and organizing your space. It allows you to create a positive environment where you can focus and grow. The physical activity of cleaning, along with the resulting cleaner space, can help reduce stress and feelings of anxiety. Our employees like to clean their workspace, wipe down their counters, or vacuum to avoid feeling cluttered. These acts free up space physically and mentally allowing room for new and positive thoughts.

Self-Care

Self-care is important to maintaining a healthy relationship with your mind and body. Setting time aside for activities you love can help you manage stress and anxiety. Activities such as listening to music or a podcast, winding down your day with a bath or getting dinner at your favorite restaurant are all examples of how you can incorporate self-care into your daily routine. Small acts of self-care in your daily life can have a big impact on your mental state.

Now that you’re prepared to give your mental health some extra attention, be sure to be consistent with these small daily practices for long-term growth and prosperity.
