The Benefits of Attending in-person Industry Events

Author: Ali Cappetta

With in-person events making their way back to the mainstream in this post-pandemic era, some people are (understandably) on the fence about attending. In some cases, attendees are given the option to join virtually through a livestream.

While hybrid or virtual events can be great, here are a few reasons to consider attending an old-fashioned, in-person event pending your comfort level:

Foster New Relationships with Journalists

So many of the close relationships that PR professionals have with journalists stem from in-person encounters. An event dedicated to showcasing brands and products to media who cover the industry is an impactful way to build new relationships with key contacts. In addition to quality face time, you can learn more about the journalist on a personal level, demonstrate your product or showcase your brand, and create a reason to follow up or keep in touch. Journalists are busy people and time with them is invaluable.

Unexpected Networking Opportunities

There is no bigger networking opportunity than being physically present at an industry event and surrounded by professionals in your field. Like with any networking opportunity, it’s what you make it. You can walk out of the room with a handful of new contacts, business opportunities or even a new client if you seize the moment. Don’t be afraid to mingle – your next big break could be at the booth next to you or even behind you in the bathroom line.

Idea Inspiration

While keeping a pulse on the industry is on the to-do list of every marketing and PR professional, seeing brands up close and personal can spark inspiration for product improvement, new partnerships, or alert you to new competitor you didn’t know you had. Sometimes when we are so engulfed in our own brand’s roadmap, we lose sight of what else is going on in the industry.

This is why we look forward to attending in-person events throughout the rest of this year and beyond.
